We were tasked to re-design the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards brand identity to better represent a modern and progressive Aotearoa.

The purpose of the awards is to honour New Zealanders who use their passion and drive to make a difference in Aotearoa.  

We saw this as opportunity to not only celebrate the success of their work, but to create a platform that engagesAotearoa with the stories of our nation's most inspiring change-makers.  

The new identity set out to better showcase their journey to bring about change in their communities and wider Aotearoa, and bring to life the tenacity and courage that drives them to do things differently.

Our goal was to more deeply reflect the people behind the New Zealander of the Year ceremony.

The brand tohu has been at the core of the identity for many years and was inspired by the weave of their kakahu, Pouhine, which is presented to the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year annually.

Through an editorial-driven approach to image and language, we delve into the worlds of the individual nominees through an intimate, honest and real look at what makes them tick, and how they got to where they are today.
